RicePirate's News

Posted by RicePirate - January 12th, 2012

Just released an Infinity Blade parody. If you're not familiar with the Infinity Blade series, I highly recommend it. It is notably repetitious, however it's a skill game that gets very satisfying over time. IB2 offers 3 different fighting styles which are actually surprisingly unique. Beautiful graphics and well worth the price.

Thanks to Chris Zambelis for his improv and smexy voicing. And on a side note, it's the first time I was actually happy with my backgrounds! I MADE BACKGROUNDS WOOOOTT!

.

In other news. Soap Creative has recently popped their head up. While I know some Newgrounders have a hate/love relationship with companies that post to the site, I can vouch for the Soap team. All very good people, creative, and looking for feedback. I've worked with them on a couple projects, and they're a wonderfully supportive group of people.

Just look at their lovable faces.

.

Lots of stuff in the pipeline ... but with the move in just 2 weeks ... things will likely slow down.

.

Lookin' forward to the weekend, Luis :]

Not to get all "dear diary" on you ...

After 12 years, I'm leaving NYC and heading West out to pasture. We're packin' up and road-tripping it before Feb 1.

Downtown Minnesota will be my new home. New York City was great, exciting, and smelled like piss in the Summer (literally), but I want a dog, I want to see the horizon, and I want to kick a soccer ball on the grass without getting a $150 ticket.

Cons- I'll miss all those impromptu NG meets with Luis and co.

Pros - My new place is twice as big and has a decent-sized room that will be converted into a home recording studio. Seeing as I'll no longer have Edge Studio in my general vacinity, my wife and I have agreed to invest a hefty chunk of change into equipment and treatment of the space.

.

With that, Imma try to convince some of you East coast NG assholes to come hang out once before the month's end.

.

In other news, some really fun projects on the horizon, some waiting at the gates, some just starting to come together.

Thanks for all the support for CLAP2. I promise the third one will actually be good.

Thanks to Osuka and judges for the role of the professor. The whole audition/competition was a blood bath of talented folks. I consider myself very lucky.

.

I started a blog ... kinda. Still under construction. Still not sure if I'll really keep it up.

.

Happy 2012 . Let's make it count.

I'm moving on...

With Christmas behind us, we're looking towards the new year. Whatever 2012 turns out to be, it's pretty clear from the activities around the world, that it'll be a year of headlines. It's part of our reason for deciding to move out of New York in the next few months ... for the first time in 12 years ... I'm getting the feeling that NYC is quite literally a powder keg. Concerns aside, how bout that Newgrounds?

.-.-.-.

DECEMBER ON NEWGROUNDS

--> Most recently: Santa Came! by Sam Green <--

I believe he animated this on Christmas day ... then I voice/sound designed most of it last night. Yay, for recording blowjob sounds in your mother-in-laws car.

Some released stuff:
A Faulty Christmas, Santa's Milk and Cookies, Dragonzball P, Skyrim Is Epic, Inanimate, Skyrim Fail, Legend of the Void, Skyrim - CotN.

As well as a number of projects that have yet to be released. A couple of things I helped out with that I'm looking forward to seeing :Ace Pilot, Lucky Tower, a piece with Zambelis and Elfman, a small diddy with PsychicPebble, sandwich's weird xmas porn thing, Mark-er's robot piece :P, BoyBogart's Halloween piece, the results of Osuka's 3D figure content, and a number of others I'm no doubt forgetting at this moment.

.-.-.-.

2012 ON NEWGROUNDS

While I told myself I was gonna slow down this coming year, in terms of submissions, the truth is I have a really hard time refusing to collaborate with people. However, in 2012, I'll be exercising more control over the projects I work on ... which really just translates to being honest about my schedule and not biting off more than I can chew ... all the time.

It also means (for all the folks who are sick of my voice), that you won't be inundated with a month of 10 entries voiced by Ricepirate.

.-.-.-.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

2011 has been a really great year. Plenty of successes and failures, but even more "learning" and "connecting" with so many great artists/musicians/animators/writers. To this, I fully attribute the Newgrounds community (even the more YouTube-oriented ones :P).

To all a very Merry Christmas. I wish you guys all the best in creation and success for the coming year.

P.S. Suck Santa's fat fucking Yuletide log. <3

I've been meaning to learn how to animate frame-by-frame for some time now. And after watching numerous tuts and speaking with a few of NG's "actual animators", I'm learning bits and pieces as I go along.

Here it is : Inanimate, a true story

But as Spazkid said, "I just did it everyday." And it's true, there's no subsitute for practice. I still suck at it, but in just a short amount of time consistantly drawing, frame after frame, it became easier (not only to draw, but to anticipate the next frames).

.

Some folks have been crying about Skyrim overload (*insert weiner in Jaz's mouf*), but that's the nature of a new release: LA Noire, MvC3 ... the recent resurgence of Pokemon, thanks to Oney. It'll pass ... but not for at least another couple weeks, I'd imagine.

.

Lots of other stuff to mention, but I'll save it for next week.

As much as I cherish visiting the family, it doesn't take long for me to miss the grind back in New York (and a decent internet connection). I've been away from my work station for about a week now, and I'm getting jittery.

Flying back tomorrow evening. So ... just in time.

Some pretty exciting projects on the horizon, including: Lucky Tower 2, Echo Force Zero, Bogart and Joey's Halloween pieces, the Dino collab, among a number of others.

The project with Hulalaoo, now has a full cast of Seiyrurenaih, Sapphire, Caxx, and myself. So, we're truckin' along.

Special thanks for the interview and the kind words. I can't say it enough, but Newgrounds really has given me seemingly endless opportunities to explore, practice, and connect creatively. I have a lot to learn, but considering I'm surrounded by so many talented animators, storytellers, comedians, voice actors, artists, and musicians ... I have no shortage of folks to learn from.

Nipple licks and discount dicks,

Aside from all the shitty shortass flashes I've been pumping out, I am actually working on a number of large-scale projects (quite a few have yet to be released).

One such larger-scale project has been in the works for some time, and with the unrelenting talent of Hulalaoo, roughly a third of it is complete.

A major component to the piece is missing. A female voice.

The story takes place 900 years after God of War 3 ends. While details could be surmised, I'd rather not blurt it out.

.

GET TO THE POINT
I'm seeking a female who can emulate (not necessarily mimic) the narrator of GoW. It is a powerful and aged voice (but not weak and elderly).

As well as Athena (which, I'm sure is much easier)

Athena voice reference (skip to 0:58)

.

The Narrator would have to read this text (the intro) (script provided after intial contact)

.

If you happen to know anyone who would be interested/capable, please pass along the word.

Something new:

ABOBO : TRUTH OF THE STACHE

If you've beta-tested Abobo's Big Adventure, you probably loved the game. If not, you were probably born after 1990.

A post was made discussing whether Abobo actually had a mustache. Concept art for Abobo varies greatly: sometimes he's black, sometimes he's white, sometimes he's a fucking were-armadillo. But few pictures, if any, have depicted Abobo with a mustache (which he so gracefully wears in the ABA game).

That debate, however, was laid to rest ... forever, by Abobo himself.

Anyway, a couple comments later I felt inspired to make this ... just took a month to get around to it.

ABOBO : TRUTH OF THE STACHE

NEW SUBMISSION - re:defined - DRUNKLOAD
So I submitted what is likely going to be the first of a series of "definitions of fake words that apply to common events online" ... it's not Shakespeare, but it's fun and allows me to try out new stuff and get better at old stuff. I later found out that "drunkload" along with two other words I "came up with" can be found in the urban dictionary ... almost identical in definition. An intriguing and annoying reminder that nothing is new.

===

PAID DESIGN WORK
A coding colleague of mine is looking for a web (graphic) designer to mock-up PSDs for a few of his clients. Were I not up to my eyeballs in work, I would help out. It's paid, but will likely be on a budget. If you're interested in getting in contact with him, please email me at ricepirate.ng@gmail.com , and I'll complile and pass along the info.

===

ANIMATION
Me
: watching online tuts (mainly Oney and Spaz, so far) to a get better handle of fbf. I don't plan on being the next Zeurel or Egoraptor ... I just like to learn.

Hulalaoo : Our project continues to move forward, which is really exciting. Everything I admire about Hula's work has been amplified, and the new side of his animation that I've never seen before is really blowing me away. Yes, I am gay for Hula, you should be, too. Dick.

===

VOICING
Projects
: Lots of awesome projects already voiced, and many still on the table.

VA Competition 7: I lost. But I had a good time. Learned a lot, and plan to learn more. Thanks to Ja, Drew, Bry, and Sim for makin' it happen. 'grats to all who entered, and big props to m'man Chris Z ... for kicking my ass.

And if you are drunkloading tonight ... don't drunkload this :

The Newgrounds Voice Acting Contest 7 is wrapping up tonight.
This year's theme was : Apocalypse.

We had to write, record, voice, and edit it all ourselves, using only royalty-free sound effects and music.

-------- -------- -------- -------- --------
My entry was : Christmas 2012
-------- -------- -------- -------- --------

Plenty stressful, but completely worth it. Learned a lot about editing, finding sounds (yay!), and about myself as a VA.

Lots of great stuff, check out the event and the entries the other brave/talented VAs pulled together
