Yu-Gi-Oh, Hunter S Thompson, and ONEY2012

First off ... best wishes to Edd, his family, and friends. While I'm not religious, I sincerely hope that there is a better place after life, and if so, that Edd is sharing his creativity and passion there ... as much as he did here on Earth.

In the light of such an event, sharing idle news about personal projects seems so hollow, but I think most people will agree, that of all people, Edd wouldn't have wanted his passing to be a cause for a creative stand-still.

So ... here's some stuff ...

I voice the old man, Roku, is episodes 15 & 16. The episodes aired a couple weeks ago, but still haven't been posted to Hulu. However, you can catch the episodes here:

While it appears lots of folks have mixed feelings about 4Kids, I have to say, despite what executive decisions they've made, the folks that work at the NYC office/studio are really awesome people, and I'd count myself lucky to work with them again.

Still completely lost in terms of how the game is played.

Most folks here are probably too young to even know who the hell he is. If you've seen Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas ... it's about him. He was a drug-addict, writer, and had a fetish for machinery and guns.

For a sound test for ProTools10, I asked a college friend of mine to write a short piece in the style of HST.

Edd ain't pissed about your success. I'm not pissed about your success. You're not pissed about your success. Everyone's happy. But why the fuck must Oney suffer? No noses? Fuck that.

There are worse abuses out of Oney. For one, he makes Satan look like a total joke. That's absolute garbage. Satan is a total asshole and still owes me fifty bucks. And another, Oney doesn't submit enough music (he has better and more consistent talent in composing than animating). Still, he did bring up the problems with Machinima.com's contracts and helped raise scrutiny over the Kony twenty-twelve gig after he, that's right, submitted a SOUNDTRACK to psychicpebble's recent entry that derailed the whole matter. In other words, Oney is multifaceted in terms of talents but doesn't seem to want to develop them further or find a niche where he can develop material on a professional basis. Fuck the noses--that's a stylistic trope.

Wait a minute... didn't you collaborate with psychicpebble on that fucking thing?

Anyway, Oney is a pretty cool guy and I happen to look up to him. He doesn't seek approval or authorization, he just went and did it. What balls. I'm not going to just bend over and buy stupid merchandise to have him banned from Newgrounds or some dipshit stuff like that. I'd rather just ask him to practice drawing noses, as they can be very expressive of a character's personality.

I was researching (at random) Hunter S. Thompson the other day. One of the famous excerpts from "Fear and Loathing" (in Las Vegas) is a capsule summary of the hippie zeitgeist. It's called the Wave Speech, and it's a resigned recollection of that time and an indicator of where its scope had ended. It's hard to say whether it is a good thing or not--depends on your impression of hippies and the mainstream culture, which is more evil or stupid--but hey, it's one of the best pieces of prose about reminiscence from any author I've read.

Anyway, keep up the good work. It's plain that it's not going to die down anytime soon, only act as though it will so you'll stay on top, okay?

I'm suprised it took someone this long to make something called "ONEY 2012".

And yea it's a real shame and kind of puts a downer on what everyone's doing in terms of cartoons n stuff- a tragedy like that always feels like it came out of nowhere even though it was kind of building up for a long time, I guess. The best we can ask is that people are inspired by what's there, and everyone can elegantly accept the truth that Yu-Gi-Oh fucking sucks.

But congrats anyway! Job's a job, lol

yea! the debate begins to heat up! though there seems to be some evidence that oney did have alliances with the noses at one point between 2009 and 2010 (the fred cartoon and fyat) but something seems to have changed around 2011...
