Who's Dan O'Day?

I gentleman in the voiceover industry who a number of people like on facebook.

I have no idea who this dude is, but his site is infuriating. He should turn off all there radio jingle bullshit that only industry radio people from 1987 find appealing.

yah part of his 2.5 pre-recorded webinar is teaching the "dos and donts" as well as proper user interface ... with that menu and autoplay ... I really hope he uses his own site as an example of what to avoid.

Its so funny how he preaches how web designers are a waist of money but then wants you to pay him money for tips on web design. Webdesigns are not a waist of money, but the problem is most people claiming to be a web designer have no clue what they are doing. Anyone can just follow a tut online and make something look pretty, but pretty is just about worthless (although not totally worthless). I was part of a team of four people who made websites with literally NO product or service and every site we built grabbed millions of view every month. And we were paid well to make them, then you get Joe NoBody who just bought his first copy of photoshop and he think he can quickly emulate the same product. He makes something comparably looking and charges the same price a pro would... even calls him self a professional, but his site doesn't get any hits, ultimately because he doesn't know what he is doing. I am sure you see the same thing all the time in the voice acting industry, you hear a voice demo that has lots of potential but it is just riddles with beginners mistakes, mistakes the "noob" doesn't even know to listen for.

I woulda been okay with him saying "some designers" ... but it was clear : his sales pitch was to convince people that designers (as a whole) will fuck you. It's a scare tactic : "Those guys are evil! I will give you the truth behind it all! Designers waste your money! Pay me money!"

congrats, you probably gave this nobody more hits than he ever will get in a month.

in the vo industry he pulls some weight ... (600+ likes on fb) ... which is what makes this 600x sadder.

I think you've let this guy get under your skin a bit too much. Every community of artist, be them painters, musicians, animators, fashion designers, etc, will always have a group of critics who accuse their entire profession of being full of shit. It's just something that you as an artist will have to accept!

That's true. The issue is the misinformation. There's already so much of a stigma that everything on the internet is easy and that anyone can do it ... having fuckheads like this not only reinforce that, but attempt to convince people that professionals are actually all out to scam people ... and to PAY HIM for that advice, just irks me. But more so, I find the whole thing frustratingly hilarious.

where can I torrent his speech?

right? I'd be surprised if he even knew what torrent was.

What I'm getting from this is that Dan doesn't have enough money to buy himself a decent website, so he's pulling a "good websites are stupid anyway, who needs 'em??"

The league of evil webdesigners agrees. That is quite literally one of the theories we've put forward trying to make sense of how he could possibly boast user-interface and dos-n-donts ... with a straight face.
